The cell's nucleus

The nucleus is the control center of the cell. It houses your DNA which is the what provides the master plan for everything that goes on in your body.

Your DNA contains your hereditary information (from your family)and controls cell division.

Why this is important will be made clear later on, but I'd like you to take a look at the video in this link below. The Human Genome Project started in the mid 1900's and in 2003 resulted in the entire human blueprint. This could mean that if we know the blueprint, i.e. why my eyes are blue, why I have thick hair etc., then it could lead to knowing what diseases I am predisposed to. For example, a grandfather dies of heart disease, his son has a heart attack and his son has chest pain. Can something be done to prevent this, can we change the DNA expression? i.e. can we get the DNA to send out a signal to reproduce healthy cells and not sick ones which are programmed in the DNA from our families.

Check out the video from the project. Human Genome Project Makes it a little clearer as to how important our DNA is doesn't it? It is known that there are a number of influences that can alter the genes we are given at birth: such as the air we breathe, the water we drink and the nutrients we absorb or don't.
